Imperial War Museum North

Built on the opposite bank to The Lowry at Salford Quays, The Imperial War Museum North is Daniel Libeskind’s first permanent building in the UK.

As part of his commission from the Museum, Len Grant made hours of sound recordings on the site and interviewed workers, engineers, architects, and specialist sub-contractors.

Grant’s stunning images of its construction were projected onto the gallery walls for one of the museum's opening exhibitions. Alongside a soundtrack of building noise and interview excerpts, the exhibition conveyed the physical effort and engineering expertise that makes the IWM North such a remarkable landmark.
