Personal Work
This is photography and writing that has not been commissioned by a client. It’s about making work that I’ve always wanted to do, often taking on projects that I know people will find interesting but that perhaps might not normally be commissioned.
At the moment I am writing a blog about a young mum from Moss Side. Frances became pregnant within a few weeks of her sixteenth birthday and Mia was born on 11th September 2011. At the suggestion of Social Services Frances now lives in supported accommodation for vulnerable young mothers. Frances spent her childhood on the child protection register. She doesn't want the same for Mia. See Her First Year here.
In 2010 I published Billy and Rolonde, a book about social exclusion and worked with a poet on a joint photography and poetry project called Shooting the Breeze.
Here are some images from Her First Year.
