Our House: the book
The Our House project is about people’s experiences of regeneration. This 160-page book was published to coincide with the exhibition at The Lowry, 23rd September–19th November 2006.
This is from my introduction to the book:
'It’s documenting this process of change that Our House is about. Here we are as photographers, at a moment in this city’s history. We have the privilege of recording it, seeing how it develops. We can give people a voice, a mechanism for putting their views across. And that’s all we can do. It’s not a representative sample, it’s just a series of individuals we’ve all come across and asked, How is it for you?'
As well as my work in New Islington, Jo and Christoph Shaw elicit views on urban change from Salford residents and Liz Lock and Mishka Henner survey Hattersley in Tameside prior to its regeneration programme. Our House also includes work from 15 year-old Charlie Burns from Hattersley who made a personal record of his home town and its residents.
